New Delhi: A Reddit community has voted Byju Raveendran, co-founder and CEO of Edtech platform Byju’s, as the worst Indian founder. Among the four categories of recognition for Indian founders – underrated, most overrated, the best, and the worst Indian founders – Raveendran has been voted the worst.
The “Startup India” Reddit community has been conducting polls on public opinions about Indian startup founders.
The negative votes ranged for issues including toxic work culture, scamming customers, unethical business practices, and bringing a bad name to the Indian startup ecosystem.
Byju’s is facing insolvency proceedings following large-scale layoffs, pending salaries, and a significant drop in the firm’s valuation. Raveendran is facing several legal and financial issues. One of the charges is that he fraudulently transferred $543 million to offshore accounts. However, he denies the charges. Byju’s has also defaulted on debt obligations in India and the US.
Ola’s Bhavish Aggarwal also got some nasty comments on Reddit and narrowly missed being voted the worst Indian founder. Poor service to Ola Electric customers placed him among the most overrated.
