Hyderabad: An amusement park chain in India has devised a novel way to honour Kamala Harris, who was recently sworn in as the first black, south Asian and female President of the United States of America — they are offering free entry to those who share her name.
Wonderla recently announced that on January 24, visitors named Kamala will be allowed free entry into the park, The Indian Express reported. Kamala apart, anyone with names like Kamla, Kamal and Kamalam will also be able to avail of the offer in parks in Kochi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
“The offer is available only for the first 100 guests eligible for the offer under each park,” the management of the park said in a Facebook post.
Harris has Indian roots. He mother was born in this country before moving to the US for higher studies. Harris’ maternal grandfather lived in Chennai.
Harris has spoken about her Indian roots at several public appearances. On the day she was sworn in as vice-president, she paid tribute to her late mother for always reminding her two daughters that “though we may be the first, we should not be the last.”
