‘Calling Patriotism A Formula Is An Insult’: Vicky Kaushal Decodes Box-Office Success Of ‘Dhurandhar’ & ‘Chhaava’

Mumbai: Actor Vicky Kaushal, who recently bagged the ‘Actor of the Year (Male)’ award at NDTV Indian Of The Year 2025 awards, decoded the reason behind the box-office success of ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Chhaava’.

‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Chhaava’, the two highest-grossing patriotic Hindi films this year, which crossed Rs 800 crore worldwide, left people wondering if patriotism is the formula behind their success.

However, Vicky set the records straight saying that calling patriotism a formula is an insult to emotions.

Speaking about the success of the two films, Vicky told NDTV, “I think patriotism can’t be a formul

a and saying it is a formula is an insult to the emotion. Patriotism is our truth, which we will keep showing through our movies, literature and sports.”

He added, “This is the way we can put our foot in the door and say that we are proud of the diversity, legacy and the truth of our country. I am so proud that I am a little part of this big moment where we are fearlessly representing India on a global map.”

Directed by Laxman Utekar, ‘Chhaava’ revolved around the story of Maratha king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and his battle with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

The film featured Vicky as Sambhaji Maharaj and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb. It collected ₹807 crore worldwide.

Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’, on the other hand, is a spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy infiltrating Pakistan’s gangs to bust the terror network.

The film also features Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt in key roles.

The film has collected ₹845 crore in 17 days at the box office.
