Puri: Two organisations have called for 12-hour Puri bandh on Friday in protest against the cancellation of Rath Yatra this year.
Members of Srijagannath Sena and Srikshetra Suraksha Bahini staged a protest in the town on the day after the Supreme Court ordered that Rath Yatra in Puri or anywhere in Odisha will not be organised this year considering the prevalent situation due to COVID-19.
After the Supreme Court announced its order, the state Cabinet took the decision to abide by it.
Both Srijagannath Sena and Srikshetra Suraksha Bahini alleged that it was a conspiracy on the part of the state government to prevent the Rath Yatra from being celebrated.
The two organisations said peaceful bandh will be observed in entire Puri town from 6 am to 6 pm.
