Cancer In India: There Will Be 12 Per Cent Rise In Cases By 2025, Says Report

New Delhi: With little relief on the coronavirus front, there is disturbing news on the cancer front too.

According to the latest National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP) report, the country will have 13.9 lakh cancer cases by the end of this year. The number will increase to 15.7 lakh by 2025, marking a rise of about 12% from earlier estimations, reported The New Indian Express (TNIE).

The NCRP is run by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Centre for Disease Informatics & Research. The estimates are based on information related to cancer collected from 28 population-based cancer registries.

The north-eastern region accounted for the highest number of cancers related to the use of any form of tobacco and in higher proportions among men. Cancer of the lung, mouth, stomach and oesophagus were the most common cancers among men. Cancer of breast and cervix uteri were the most common cancers among women, the report added.
