Boudh: In an anti-narcotic drive, excise, intelligence and police
officials destroyed 1.35 lakh cannabis plants illegally cultivated on
45 acres of land at Laxmipadar village in Sandhipada panchayat of
Boudh district on Friday.
The estimated cost of the destroyed plants is Rs 13.50 crore.
“Even though thousands of hemps are burnt every year during similar
raids, illegal cannabis plantation continues to flourish in many parts
of the district”, an excise official said.
Following the raid, the local residents of the area demanded that
those involved in the illegal ganja trade should be immediately
identified and arrested.
