Mumbai: Had the novel coronavirus not turned the world upside down, the Cannes Film Festival would have been under way now.
This year’s prestigious event may have been postponed indefinitely, but why not turn the clock back by a year and revisit Cannes Film Festival 2019, when Indian divas made their presence felt at the French Riviera.
Deepika Padukone: The No. 1 actress and reigning queen of Bollywood attended the gala event for two days. And she won hearts with bold and beautiful styles. She opted for Peter Dundas’ black and white gown with a high ponytail which made her stand out in the crowd. She took a bigger ‘risk’ on Day 2, donning Giambattista Vali’s big neon gown. She didn’t disappoint anyone and made it to the best-dressed list of every international magazine, and in India as well.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: The queen of Cannes, and former Miss World, has been gracing the red carpet in Cannes for several years. Even in 2019, her amazing looks and style remained a talking point in international media. She started out in a décolletage-baring metallic gold gown with a long trail. Like Deepika, she brought drama to the carpet in an Ashi Studio white voluminous gown.
Sonam Kapoor: Anil Kapoor’s daughter strode the red carpet in a custom-made hand-rafted Ralph and Russo couture tuxedo. The white tuxedo had soft-padded shoulders and a thin belt around the waist from which the dress fell elegantly. The green emerald jewellery and the ankle piece by Chopard went wonderfully with this tux. The high-heeled white stilettos were by Jimmy choo.
Priyanka Chopra: Our very own desi girl made her Cannes debut in 2019, opting for a shimmering black gown by Roberto Cavalli. She walked hand in hand with husband Nick Jonas on the second day in a white Georges Hobeika Gown. Many were disappointed with her simple style, having previously wowed the public with spectacular looks at various other events.
Kangana Ranaut: Multiple shades of colour were displayed by Kangana. On the one hand, she showed off her traditional side by wearing a golden saree with heavy embroidery, along with red gloves and black shades. And then, she appeared in an elegant pink gown designed by Michael Cinco, with matching pink hoop earrings by Chopard.
Diana Penty: The ‘Cocktail’ girl made her presence felt at the French Riviera as she walked in a Nedret Taciroglu shimmering gown. The pretty actress looked breathtaking in the ensemble.
Huma Qureshi: The talented, though under-rated Bollywood actress graced the red carpet in a big voluminous gown designed by Gaurav Gupta. Her outfit, however, didn’t go down well with the critics and fans, who were disappointed with her choice.
Hina Khan: This television beauty also made her Cannes debut last year and became the talk of the town with a stylish appearance, when she took the red carpet by storm.
