Amid Narendra Modi wave sweeping the whole of North India, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is holding ground for Congress in Punjab after winning a majority in the 2017 assembly elections.
At 12 noon, the Congress was leading in eight of 13 Lok Sabha seats with BJP ahead in just two seats.
BJP’s candidate from Gurdaspur Sunny Deol is leading by a margin of almost 15,000 votes.
In 2014, Punjab had warded off the Modi wave, giving the BJP just one seat. The Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP’s senior alliance partner, the Congress and the debutant Aam Aadmi Party had won 4 seats each.
