Mumbai: Sapna Gill, a social media influencer who was arrested in connection with an alleged attack on Team India cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car, told a Mumbai magistrate’s court on Saturday that she did not know him and didn’t ask for a selfie with him, ANI and PTI reported.
Rubbishing claims made by Shaw and his friend in their complaint, Sapna in turn said that Shaw and his friend asked her not to file a police complaint, said sorry, and left.
“My friend had asked him for the selfie. I didn’t know he is a cricketer. We were only two and Prithvi Shaw was with eight friends. It’s all wrong that they had food in the hotel, we were partying in the club, and he was drunk. Police asked us to end the matter,” Sapna stated.
Sapna’s lawyer referred to media reports on Shaw’s alcohol habit and argued that it landed the cricketer in trouble in the past also.
“Sapna didn’t say anything like ‘give Rs 50,000 and end the case’. There is no proof of this. Sapna is an influencer. Prithvi Shaw gets a complaint filed 15 hours after incident through his friend… why was it not done the same day?” ANI quoted the lawyer as saying in court.
Based on a complaint lodged by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav, Oshiwara police registered a case against Sapna, her friend Shobit Thakur and six others under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation).
Sapna was arrested on Thursday and Thakur a day later.
They were produced before Andheri Magistrate, who remanded Sapna to police custody till February 20.
