Car Owner Slapped With Notice For Sporting ‘Police’ On Number Plate In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Fancy number plates too invite hefty fines following the implementation of the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019.

The Commissionerate Police here has issued a notice to a car owner here for writing “POLICE” on his vehicle’s rear number plate.

The matter came to light after a Twitter user took a photograph of the said vehicle and posted it tagging Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi.

The Commissioner tweeted back saying that a notice has been issued to the car owner.

 

What number plates are allowed?

Vehicles under 70cc need to have number plates with font height of 15mm and width of 2.5mm. The space between each letter and number needs to be at least 2.5mm. For 500cc vehicles or three-wheelers, the font height needs to be 35mm and width 7mm. The space between each letter and number has to be at least 5mm.

For all other vehicles, the font height needs to be 65mm with a width of 10mm. The space in between has to be 10mm at least. Number plates cannot have any symbols, names or stickers.
