Car Sales April 2020: Maruti, MG Report Zero Sales

New Delhi: The auto industry is one of the hardest-hit during the lockdown. The country’s highest car seller, Maruti, reported zero sales in April.

The company was able to export just 632 units during the lockdown month. It had sold 147,110 units in February 2020 out of which a little over 10,000 were exports.

Maruti is not the only carmaker to report such low numbers. Morris Garages (MG) on Friday also reported nil sales in April.

MG restarted a small portion of its production in the last week of April. The company has tied up with a Vadodra-based ventilator maker to make around 300 ventilators a month to support the fight against coronavirus. The Chinese-owned British brand also provided 100 Hectors to frontline COVID-19 warriors and offered vehicle sanitization services to police.

Both production and dealerships are shut for carmakers and it would not be a surprise to see zero sales of most brands this month.
