Cuttack: A minor girl lost her life while four others were severely injured when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck near Katikata Chhak under Nischintakoili police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sarita Malik (17) while the other victims were Debashish Mohanty, Bababi Malik, Biswajit Malik and Sandhyarani Malik. All injured persons were undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Sources said that they were bringing an ailing person from Binjharpur in Jajpur district to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar in the car. Following the collision with the truck, the vehicle hit a roadside tree killing the girl on the spot.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured ones. Injured persons were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The driver and helper of the truck managed to flee the spot. Police have seized the vehicle and started a probe into the matter.
