Dhenkanal: The carcass of a female elephant was found near a vegetable field in Bolua Sahi village of Kakudibhaga panchayat under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district on Monday morning.
Following information, Dhenkanal DFO and Forest staff of Sadar Range rushed to the village for an on-the-spot investigation.
The Forest staff also noticed a herd of elephant at a distance of 500 metres from the place where the carcass is lying.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the female elephant, the age of which would be about 12 years, might have been killed after coming in contact with live wire. From the physical symptoms, it is believed that the female elephant was pregnant.
