Nilagiri: Forest officials found the decomposed carcasses of two female elephants while patrolling Balichua hill forest inside Kuldiha sanctuary of Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday morning.
The elephants must be around 30-40 years of age.
The guards informed the higher officials after which the regional chief conservator of forests and assistant conservator of forests rushed to the spot. The post-mortem of the two elephants was conducted in their presence.
“We suspect the two elephants died of anthrax,” said ACF Laxman Pradhan.
