Bhubaneswar: A cargo ship has been seized at Paradip port on the order of the Orissa High Court in a case of maritime trade dispute.
According to official sources, the cargo vessel, MV Propel Fortune, had left a port in Abu Dhabi, UAE and arrived at Paradip port in Jagatsinghpur district a few days back.
The personnel of Customs, CISF and Paradip Marine Police in presence of Civil Judge (Senior Division), Kujang, who was appointed as Marshal by the High Court, seized the ship late Monday night.
As per the case, MH Brand SL had supplied some goods worth over Rs 15,56,000 to the ship some time back but was not paid for it. After failing to get its dues, the company had approached the high court.
Since MV Propel Fortune was scheduled to depart from Paradip port at 6 am on Tuesday, the petitioner had appealed to the court to detain it so that it could get his payment.
On hearing the petition, the high court directed the authorities to detain the ship till further order or next hearing of the case.
