Mangaluru: A lot of Good Samaritans have stepped forward to help migrant workers and others during the lockdown.
The Apostolic Carmel (AC) sisters, known for running missionary schools across the country, have also joined this league by doing all they can to save lives and bring a smile on the gloomy faces of the migrants.
The AC sisters of St Mary’s Convent at Falnir, Mangaluru have opened the doors of their school campus for nearly 150 migrant labourers, who were in need of shelter amid the lockdown.
These migrant labourers, who hailed from different states across the country including Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, were stranded in Mangaluru and were waiting to board the Shramik trains to return home.
The AC sisters not only gave them shelter but also provided them with food prepared at their convent.
Ex-students along with the other AC sisters carried out the work of helping under the guidance of Sister Maria Gloria AC, Superior General and Sister Maria Nivedika AC, Principal of St Mary’s Convent.
“The migrants didn’t have anything to eat. It was heart-warming to see the bright smile on their faces when we offered them food,” said the principal.
Later, the migrants were shifted to Town Hall where they were kept along with the other migrant workers, who too, were provide food by AC Sisters.
