Cash, Gold & Other Valuables Worth Over Rs 10 Crore Looted From Mangaluru Bank

Mangaluru: A gang of armed robbers looted valuables worth Rs 10 to 12 crore from the Sahakari Sangh Bank in Karnataka’s Mangaluru on Friday, reported PTI.

The daring heist took place at peak time, between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm.

According to police, a group of five to six masked men, aged between 25 and 35, entered the bank’s Kotekar branch armed with pistols, sword and a knife.

There were four or five employees present in the bank at that time.

The robbers, who spoke in Hindi, allegedly threatened the staff and forced them to open the vault containing gold jewellery and other valuables.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was in Mangaluru, was briefed about the major robbery. He ordered a thorough probe into the burglary during a meeting with top police officials, including Inspector General of the Western Range Amit Singh, Commissioner of Police Mangaluru City Anupam Agarwal, and Superintendent of Police N Yathish. Speaker U T Khader was also present at the meeting.

Police have formed multiple teams to track down the suspects using technical surveillance and other available leads.

A day earlier, two unidentified armed robbers shot dead two security guards and fled with Rs 93 lakh in cash which was to be loaded in an ATM in Karnataka’s Bidar.
