Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar Police has begun an investigation into the theft in two houses at Bairagi Nagar in Jharpada area here in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to police sources, an old man used to leave his house early in the morning every day to collect flowers. Taking this opportunity, the thieves entered his house after breaking open the front door and looted cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 4 lakh after making other family members unconscious.
The thieves later took away valuable electronic equipment like a mobile phone, laptop and an iPod tablet kept near the window of a house in the area.
Preliminary investigation hinted at involvement of a gang of thieves, belonging to the areas nearby Jharpada, the sources added.
