Puri: Police have arrested a cashier for allegedly stealing over Rs 30 lakh from his bank in Odisha’s Puri district.
According to sources, Anil Kumar Sabara was working as cashier in Odisha Gramya Bank’s branch at Maluda under Krushnaprasad block of the district. A few days back, the bank’s manager came to know that Rs 30,84,000 had been missing from its locker.
After failing to ascertain how the money was stolen, the manager filed a complaint at Krushnaprasad police station. During investigation, the police suspected involvement of Anil in the theft as he had access to the locker besides the manager and conducted a raid on his house at Khallikote in Ganjam district.
During the raid, the police recovered Rs 12 lakh from Anil’s house. As he failed to explain the source of the money, the police arrested the cashier and forwarded him to court.
The police have launched an investigation to ascertain involvement of other people and what Anil had done with rest amount of the stolen money.
