Cat Shot Dead In Bhubaneswar; Engineering Student Arrested

Bhubaneswar: An engineering student, Ashutosh Nayak, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a pet cat at Unit-IV here.

In a complaint lodged at Kharvela Nagar police station, the owner of the cat, Sushant Kumar Pattnaik, alleged that Ashutosh had shot the cat. The feline had sustained bullet injuries in the head and back.

According to Sushant, his mother heard gunshots around 12.30 pm. She later found the cat falling in their garden. The cat was taken to College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry where it succumbed.

The complainant further claimed that the engineering student had earlier killed many stray dogs, cats and birds in a similar manner.

Though Ashutosh has confessed to have fired on the cat, the gun used in the crime is yet to be recovered.

In November, a cab driver was arrested for allegedly mowing down four puppies at Shailashree Vihar here.  Activists of the People for Animals had lodged a complaint with the police against him.
