Bargarh: Bajrang Dal activists on Thursday night intercepted a truckload of cattle in front of Bikash Hospital here.
According to sources, a Kolkata-bound vehicle (No. WB 4900 42) was intercepted by Bajrang Dal activists who informed the police about the cattle smuggling.
Subsequently, a patrolling police team reached the spot and found at least a hundred cattle were stuffed inside the vehicle. The vehicle was suspected too have come from Chattissgarh and some of the cattle were in a precarious condition due to suffocation while a few others had died, said the activists.
However, the driver of the vehicle is stated to have fled the scene, they said. The police officials have seized the vehicle.
