Cuttack: Tangi police seized a 10-wheeled container truck carrying 74 cows, along with a car piloting it, at Manguli Chhak in Cuttack district on Thursday morning.
Eight persons have been detained in connection with the case.
Acting on a tip-off about cattle being smuggled, police intercepted the vehicle. Preliminary investigation suggests that the animals were being ferried to Kolkata from Khurda to be slaughtered, a police officer said.
As the news spread, local residents began to gather at the spot and demanded strict action against those involved in the cattle smuggling racket. The cops assured them that the detainees are being questioned for lead into involvement of other persons in the racket and they will soon be nabbed.
