Bhubaneswar: A shocking case of daylight robbery has come to light in the CRP Square in Bhubaneswar, where a fraudster allegedly posing as a gas delivery executive robbed an elderly homeowner of cash and gold.
The entire act was caught on a nearby CCTV camera, the footage of which has now gone viral on social media.
According to sources, the miscreant allegedly targets residenti
al areas by posing as a delivery agent. He specifically looks for households where elderly individuals or residents are alone.
On June 13, the conman knocked on a door on upper floor of a building, claiming to deliver a gas cylinder booked. “He arrived and asked about the gas booking, demanding the consumer card. He then insisted on the payment. When I took out my purse to pay, he immediately grabbed it. He didn’t even have a gas cylinder with him at the time; he just kept pushing me to pay first and sign the documents,” said the elderly victim.
Besides snatching the cash, he forcibly took a gold ring from the victim’s hand before pushing them aside and fleeing the scene.
Cautioning others to stay alert against such miscreants, the victim added: “Please do not let strangers inside your house. Only hand over the money after you physically see the gas cylinder being delivered.”
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to track down and apprehend the fraudster on basis of the CCTV footage.
