Bhubaneswar: The CBI arrested a constable of economic offence wing (EOW) of Delhi Police while accepting bribe of Rs 4 lakh in Odisha capital on Sunday.
According to sources, a complaint was filed with EOW of Delhi Police that ‘Samaj Aina’, a media organisation in Bhubaneswar, was collecting money from the people in the name of present Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Following investigation into the complaint, the Delhi EOW with the help of Kharvel Nagar police had arrested one Manoj Seth from Master Canteen in the city on January 23.
During interrogation, Manoj revealed to the Delhi EOW that one Udaynath was helping him in running the racket. On the basis of Manoj’s statement, the EOW summoned Udaynath to Delhi. However, Udaynath claimed that he did not have any role in the racket and furnished evidence regarding his innocence. Subsequently, Udaynath was released by EOW and he came back to Bhubaneswar.
Delhi EOW filed the chargesheet in the fraud case in Patiala House court on March 28. Udaynath’s name was mentioned as the witness in the chargesheet.
When Udaynath contacted EOW in this regard, inspector Sanjay Singh Yadav of Delhi Police demanded Rs 4.5 lakh to drop his name from the chargesheet. Yadav also used to threaten Udaynath for the bribe money after the latter did not agree to pay the amount.
However, Udaynath informed CBI about the whole issue and as per the plan told Yadav to come to Bhubaneswar to take the bribe money. Yadav sent constable Amit Lahucha for the purpose.
While Lahucha was taking the bribe from Udaynath, CBI sleuths arrested him and recovered the money from his possession on Sunday. The CBI also conducted raids on the house of inspector Yadav.
