Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against three, including a postal department officer, for alleged embezzlement of Rs 93.19 lakh deposits in Malkangiri’s Lachipeta sub-post office.
The accused were identified as former sub-postmaster of the Lachipeta sub-post office, Biswanath Podiami and Rangama Raju and Ghasiram Madkami.
According to CBI, the alleged fraud took place during Podiami’s tenure between August 29, 2019, and December 31, 2020. The agency reportedly raided the accused’s house and discovered some incriminating documents.
“Podiami abused his official position, misused his postal user ID and password and made false credit entries in the core banking solutions (CBS) systems of the postal department without getting the actual cash amounts,” a CBI officer was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
