CBI Busts Delhi’s Child Trafficking Gangs Selling Newborns For Rs 5 Lakh Each

New Delhi: A sinister underworld of infant trade has been unearthed in the capital with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raiding several locations in connection with child trafficking. Two newborn babies were rescued from a house located in Delhi’s Keshavpuram and there are probably many more across the national capital’s borders.

According to CBI sources, newborns were bought and sold as commodities in the black market. The CBI is currently interrogating all parties involved, including both the woman who sold the children and the buyers themselves, NDTV reported.

According to the report, the scope of this operation extends far beyond the borders of Delhi, with the CBI making arrests of individuals involved in trafficking seven to eight children across the National Capital Region (NCR). Among those arrested are a hospital ward boy and several other women. The report quoted CBI sources as saying that approximately 10 children have been sold within the past month alone.

The CBI investigation has now spread its reach across multiple states and several major hospitals are under intense scrutiny. Newborns were being sold for exorbitant sums ranging from Rs 4 to 5 lakh, sources told NDTV.
