Sundargarh: Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted marathon raid at Barsua iron ore mines in Odisha’s Sundargarh district following allegation of massive irregularities in mining operations.
According to sources, the raid is being carried out by a seven-member team led by an additional SP at the mines being operated by the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The search operation entered its fourth day on Thursday.
Apart from verifying and examining several documents at the mining site and office located at Tensa, the team members have also been questioning the officials of SAIL as part of the probe. Officials and staff at the site are also being questioning regarding various operations.
The team members are also verifying iron ore stock and the quality of materials at the mining site. They are tallying data and statistics mentioned in different documents and files.
The search operation is being conducted following allegation of illegal transportation of iron ore leading to massive loss of revenue. It is claimed that mining lease holders were dispatching iron ore as low-grade from the mines.
