Bhubaneswar: A CBI court has sentenced the branch manager of a bank in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district to rigorous imprisonment for 4 years in a bribe case.
As per the case, a man had filed a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August, 2016 alleging that Duryodhan Sethy, branch manager at Odisha Gramya Bank at Dadaraghati in Dhenkanal district was demanding bribe from him.
The complainant stated that his wife had applied to the Gramya Bank for a loan of Rs 4.25 lakh for starting a poultry farm. While his loan application was being processed, the branch manager demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to approve it.
Following the complaint, the CBI set a trap and caught Sethy while accepting the bribe red-handed. The Central probe agency officials recovered the money from and arrested him on August 9, 2016.
The CBI filed the chargesheet in the court on October 27, 2016. Hearing the case, the Special CBI Court in Bhubaneswar convicted the bank manager on Tuesday and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 4 years.
