New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a disproportionate assets case against former Allahabad High Court judge SN Shukla.
The case pertains to the ex-judge and his wife allegedly amassing assets worth Rs 2.45 crore which are not proportionate to his known source of income during his tenure as High Court judge between 2014 and 19.
Justice Shukla, who retired in 2020, had faced another corruption case a few years ago.
CBI had registered a case against the then-sitting Allahabad High Court judge along with IM Quddusi, retired Chhattisgarh High Court judge, and four others for obtaining a favourable order to a Lucknow-based medical college in lieu of money.
A Supreme Court probe found that Justice Shukla was guilty of gross misconduct, following which then-CJI Dipak Misra had recommended his impeachment in 2018.
But he escaped impeachment, even though Justice Misra’s successor Justice Ranjan Gogoi followed it up with the Central government.
