CBI For SSR: Key Points Of SC Verdict

New Delhi: Soon after Supreme Court ordered Mumbai police to hand over all evidence it has collected to the CBI while stressing “an impartial probe”, his sister Shweta Singh Kirti on Wednesday tweeted, “There we go!! Finally!! CBI for SSR!! #CBITakesOver”.

The single-judge bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy pronounced the verdict around 11 am.

Key Points

  • FIR registered at Patna was correct
  • Bihar government is competent to transfer the case to the CBI for probing into the Patna FIR
  • It is a court-ordered CBI investigation.
  • Maharashtra police must comply and assist
  • If any other case is registered on the death of the actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the surrounding circumstances of his unnatural death, the CBI is directed to investigate the new case as well.
  • Taking note of both states (Bihar, Maharashtra) making acrimonious allegations of political interference against each, the court said the legitimacy of the investigation has come under a cloud.
  • Such comments, responsible or otherwise, have led to a speculative public discourse which has hogged media limelight.
  • These developments, unfortunately, have the propensity to delay and misdirect the investigation.
  • In such a situation, there is a reasonable apprehension of truth being a casualty and justice becoming a victim.
  • When truth meets sunshine, justice will not prevail on the living alone but after Life’s fitful fever, now the departed will also sleep well.
  • The outcome of the probe would be a measure of justice for Sushant’s father, who lost his only son
