New Delhi: Officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the agency’s own headquarters in the capital to probe four of its officials who allegedly accepted bribes from a firm accused in bank fraud cases.
The headquarters apart, searches were carried out at 13 other locations in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Meerut and Kanpur.
According The Times of India, CBI searched its own office as the accused were reported to have taken bribes there.
The four officials against whom CBI’s anti-corruption unit filed a case are RK Rishi, a DSP-rank officer posted at CBI Academy in Ghaziabad, DSP RK Sangwan and two officials from Banking Security & Fraud Cell — inspector Kapil Dhankad and steno Sameer Kumar Singh.
The quartet has been accused of compromising the CBI’s investigation on “extraneous pecuniary considerations”, granting favours and sharing confidential information of the case with Frost International.
The Mumbai-based firm has been accused of cheating a consortium of banks of over Rs 3,500 crore and setting up shell companies using those funds.
