CBI Seizes Assets Worth Over Rs 15 Crore Of Retired Railway Officer In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The CBI seized 17 kilograms of gold and Rs 1.57 crore in cash during searches at the premises of a former Principal Chief Operations Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR) in Bhubaneswar.

The premier investigating agency had on January 3 booked Pramod Kumar Jena, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer who retired in November last year, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

CBI sleuths also carried out searches at Jena’s premises in Odisha, according to sources.

During the search operations, the agency found cash of over Rs 1.57 crore and 17 kilogram of gold and jewellery (value ranging between Rs 8 crore and Rs 10 crore), they said.

This apart, bank and postal deposits receipts of Rs 2.5 crore and a large number of property documents were also unearthed.

Sources said the percentage of disproportionate assets (DA) possessed by Jena is 59.09. Jena, while serving in different capacities in Indian Railways as Dy COM (Spl), ADRM, CFTM, CTM, CCM, CTPN, PCCM, and Principal Chief Operation Manager, ECoR, Bhubaneswar, amassed assets to the tune of Rs 1,92,21,405, which are disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from 01.04.2005 to 31.03.2020 and which cannot be satisfactorily accounted for by him, the FIR lodged the agency said.

During the check period from April 1, 2005, to March 31, 2020, Jena and his family members earned income to the tune of Rs 3,25,24,893 from all known sources and incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs.88,58,745. As such, their likely savings during the said period amounts to Rs.2,36.66,148, but it is found that he had acquired immovable and movable assets to the tune of Rs.4,28,87,553. Therefore, Rs 1,92,21,405 assets are disproportionate to his known sources of income, it added.
