New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is deliberating whether to conduct the pending board exams for Class X and XII considering that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is on a rise in the country.
There are a number of options before CBSE: Reschedule the pending exams to September or October; evaluate the students on the basis of the marks obtained in internal assessments; cancel the exams completely or make it optional for students to appear for it.
CBSE is already under parental pressure and the Supreme Court’s order to reconsider cancelling the exams.
There are chances of the exams being cancelled as the Board members find no point in pushing them to a later date. The Board is contemplating the available options before coming to a final decision on Monday.
According to officials in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) no decision has been taken yet. However, CBSE will be ready with further instructions about the exams by June 23. This comes after petitions filed by parents over their wards’ safety and states like Maharastra and Delhi expressing their inability to conduct the exams. The Supreme Court too has suggested marking the students on the basis of their internal assessments.
On June 17, Delhi’s Education Minister Manish Sisodia had also expressed his concern over these exams in a letter addressed to Union HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal. The pending Board exams are scheduled to begin from July 1.
Meanwhile, the confirmed cases in Maharastra and Delhi have reached 1,21,000 and 47,102 respectively.
