Kendrapara: In view of the rise in crime here, police have decided to install 36 CCTV cameras in key places of the town and surrounding areas.
The cameras will be set up before Gajalaxmi Puja at the main entry points and exit points of Kendrapara town such as Tini Muhani, Bus Stand, Kakata Chhak, Bala Baba Chhak and Bada Hata among others.
A control room will also be set up near Old Motor Cycle Stand to monitor the cameras 24×7.
This CCTV surveillance will control crime and also monitors youths and drunkards violating traffic laws, Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar said.
Later, CCTV cameras will be installed in Pattamundai area, he added.
Notably, crime has been increasing by the day in Kendrapara district. Two criminals wanted for the murder of a medicine dealer, Gagan Sahu, were arrested after a late night police encounter in Kendrapara district recently. Gagan was shot dead near Hatia in Marshaghai on September 18.
