CCTV Footage Shows Odisha VSSUT Student On The Phone Near Bridge Where He Was Found Dead

Bhubaneswar: A couple of days after a student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) was found dead under mysterious circumstance, footage of a CCTV camera installed near the power channel (PC) bridge in Burla town of Odisha’s Sambalpur district went viral on Wednesday.

The final-year Mechanical Engineering student, identified as 22-year-old Anjaneya Dash from Jajpur district, was found dead under the bridge at around 11.30 pm on Monday.

In the CCTV footage, Anjaneya can be seen walking along the road while speaking to someone over phone at around 9 pm. He was reportedly speaking to a woman from West Bengal, residing in Noida, a local channel quoted police as saying.

Burla sub divisional police officer Baleshwar Gidhi had earlier told the media the friend he was talking to on the phone, alerted his hostel mates after the call got disconnected abruptly. His friends later found him severely injured and unconscious under the bridge and rushed him to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The student’s body bore multiple injuries including in the head and fractures in the waist.

While preliminary police investigation indicated that he might have slipped and fell from the bridge while talking on the phone, the student’s family alleged foul play since his gold ring, phone and wallet were missing. were missing. “In the morning, some of his friends came to report that something suspicious was going on — possibly even a murder. We are investigating the matter from all angles. A case has been registered under Section 101 of BNS (murder) on the basis of a complaint filed by the student’s father at the Burla police station. Three teams have been formed to investigate the case,” Gidhi added.

Anjaneya was last seen on the university premises at around 8 pm. He was residing at Pulastya hostel of the university.
