CEC Calls Upon Poll Observers Of Odisha To Ensure Free & Fair General Elections

Bhubaneswar: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar on Monday called upon election observers of Odisha to ensure that General Elections 2024 are conducted in a free and fair manner.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted a meeting-cum-training session of the election observers of the state for the upcoming General Elections. The election observers participated in the meeting held in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) through virtual medium.

The poll observers to be deployed in the elections were trained by the ECI on all aspects of the electoral process. The important role to be played by them in the election process was discussed in detail.

Different challenges to be faced by the observers at the grassroot level during the elections were dealt in detail too. There was a discussion on how to bring all those matters to the attention of the Commission as per the rules.

In the final phase of the meeting, CEC Kumar addressed the election observers. Discussing a free, fair, impartial and error-free election process, he emphasised on the critical role of election observers in the process.

The CEC touched upon subjects like the EVM, VVPAT, pooling booth, postal ballot, law and order situations and other poll related issues.

“Indian democracy is the largest democracy in the world and free, fair and impartial elections are its strength. The world is watching the election process. With a sense of this, all the observers are expected to perform their duties with utmost responsibility,” the CEC said.

The meeting was attended by CEO Nikunja Bihari Dhal, additional chief electoral officer N Tirumala Naik, Satrughna Kar, Mihir Mohanty and various election observers from the state.
