Bhubaneswar: Five years after being served ‘pakhala’ at an old age home, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna reached out to the inmates and delivered ration to them amid the nationwide lockdown.
Khanna’s team, along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, visited MP Old Age Home in Bhubaneswar, interacted with the 27 inmates and assured them all possible help in the days to come.
“Day before yesterday, I requested about an old age home I’d visited in Bhubaneswar on my trips to Puri… Within hours we not only found the place, we surprised them,” Khanna took to Twitter to share his joy.
“Five years ago, they had served me the best Pakhala (without knowing me) to welcome me and it was like food from Gods,” he wrote.
Odisha-based startup Grozip was the delivery partner for the initiative.
The Michelin star chef, restaurateur and cookbook writer and his team have collected over 100 quintals of dry ration and helped families in over 30 Indian cities.
