Central Govt Renames Iconic Rajpath To Kartavya Path; Know Why

New Delhi: The Central government is set to rename the iconic Rajpath and Central Vista lawns as Kartavya Path.

The path runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill through Vijay Chowk, India Gate to National Stadium in the national Capital.

The objective behind the renaming Rajpath is to shed remnants of British colonialism in India.

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has convened a special meeting on September 7 to formalise the renaming of Rajpath, India Today reported quoting sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had, in his address to the nation on Independence Day, stressed on factors leading to abolition of symbols and signs relating to the colonial mindset.

The name of the road where the PM’s residence is located was earlier changed from Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg to make nomenclature more people-centric.
