Rourkela: A seven-member central team visited the state government-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela on Thursday amid the proposed plan to upgrade it into a super-specialty and medical college.
The team headed by Special Director General of Health Services Dr B D Athani took stock of the infrastructure facilities and inflow of patients to the hospital. The team also held a meeting with the doctors and employees of the hospital. It is expected to submit a report to the Union Health Ministry.
In April 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to develop IGH into a super-specialty hospital and
medical college. As the project remained a non-starter even a year after the announcement, chief minister Naveen Patnaik and BJP MLA Dillip Ray wrote to the PM, demanding immediate grant of super-specialty hospital status for IGH.
