Rourkela: A five-member central team will visit Sundargarh’s NTPC Medical College and Hospital on Saturday morning to review the available infrastructural facilities for setting up the second AIIMS in Odisha.
The team reached Sundargarh the previous evening.
In November last, the Odisha government had proposed a second AIIMS in the western Odisha district and mentioned about completion of the project in Sundargarh.
“This available infrastructure can be utilised for setting up of AIIMS within a short period of time. It will cater to a large tribal population in the area and help in providing quality tertiary care in the backward area of western Odisha, The location is easily accessible through road, and air (Jharsuguda airport),” the then Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy had said.

According to sources, the central team will submit its preliminary report to the Health Ministry after assessing the infrastructure at NTPC Medical College & Hospital.
Odisha has a fully functional AllMS in Bhubaneswar.
