Centre Asks Punjab Govt For Report On Sidhu Moosewala’s Mother’s IVF Treatment At 58

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has sought a report from the Punjab government regarding the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment of singer Sidhu Moosewala’s mother Charan Kaur, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday.

The ministry said that it came across a report indicating that Charan Kaur underwent an IVF treatment to conceive a child at the age of 58, when the prescribed age limit for women undergoing such treatments is between 21 and 50 years. “Therefore, you are requested to look into the matter and submit a report to this department of the actions taken in this case as per the ART (Regulations) Act, 2021,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Balkaur Singh has accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of harassment following the birth of their second son. In a video message shared on X and Instagram on Tuesday, Balkaur alleged that the Punjab government was questioning the family about the “legality” of the child.

Opposition leaders in the state have criticised the Punjab government over the allegations made by Balkaur. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Punjab Congress chief, urged the state government to cease its harassment of the family.

Sidhu Moosewala’s parents welcomed a baby boy March 17, nearly two years after the singer was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa.  Balkaur Singh, Moosewala’s father, announced the birth of the newborn on his Facebook page saying he and his wife Charan Kaur were blessed with Moosewala’s younger brother. In an Instagram post, Balkaur posed with the staff of the medical facility where the baby was born.

Balkaur who is around 60, and Charan Kaur, 58, had opted for the IVF technique.

Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jawaharke village of Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022, at the age of 28. It was in the same year that he had contested the Punjabi Assembly Elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa but lost.
