Centre Extends Income Tax Returns Filing Date To Jan 10

New Delhi: In view of the challenges faced by taxpayers in meeting statutory compliances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre on Wednesday extended the dates for various compliances.

While the date for filing income tax returns has been extended to January 10, 2021 from December 31, 2020 for individual tax payers, the date for filing tax returns by the companies is now February 15, 2021, according to a release of Finance Ministry.

This is for the second time that the Centre has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns. Earlier, it was extended from July 31 to December 31.

Other extended dates are as follow:

  • The due date for furnishing various audit reports including tax audit report and report in respect of international/specified domestic transaction extended to January 15
  • The last date for making a declaration under Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme extended to January 31
  • The date for passing of orders under Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme, which are required to be passed by January 30, extended to January 31
  • The due date of filing of annual returns under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, for the financial year 2019-20 extended to February 28
