New Delhi: The Centre has decided to extended ‘PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’ to provide free ration till March 2022, informed Union Minister Anurag Thakur here on Wednesday.
The scheme, which was to end on November 30, will no continue till March.
The government had announced PM-GKAY for all beneficiaries covered by National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the wake of economic disruptions caused by COVID-19.
Under this scheme, the government provides 5 kg food grains free of cost to around 80 crore NFSA beneficiaries.
It may be mentioned that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 21 seeking additional allocation of rice for the next eight months under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).
Thakur said the Cabinet has also completed the formalities to repeal the three farm laws. “During the upcoming session of the Parliament, it will be our priority to take back these three laws,” Thakur said.
