New Delhi: Ahead of the elections, the centre on Thursday notified wage rate hike, ranging from 3 to 10 per cent, for MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers for 2024-25.
The new wage rates will come into force from April 1, 2024.
While the average MGNREGA wage increase across India is Rs 28 a day, the average wage for 2024-25 will be Rs 289 against Rs 261 during the preceding fiscal year. Goa (10.56 per cent) and Karnataka (10.4 per cent) are poised to witness the most substantial hike, followed by Andhra Pradesh (10.29%), Telangana (10.29%) and Chattisgarh (9.95%). While it is 7.2 per cent for Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience the smallest increase of 3 per cent for 2024-25.
According to reports, the Rural Development Ministry had sought permission from the Election Commission to notify the revision in the wage rates, which is a routine exercise, as the model code of conduct is in force across the country for the general elections.
