Bhubaneswar: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday released a commemorative postal stamp on first anniversary of the country’s vaccination drive against COVID.
Releasing the stamp at a virtual programme, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said India’s vaccination drive was the most successful in the world. He also spoke on how India’s vaccination drive began and how it managed to administer more than 150 crore shots in a year.
He posted a series of tweets on the occasion. “Releasing commemorative postal stamp on India’s achievement in developing indigenous #COVID19 vaccine. #1YearofVaccineDrive,” he said in a tweet.
In another tweet, he congratulated and thanked the scientists for developing the indigenous vaccine. “Today, on the occasion of #1YearOfVaccineDrive, a postal stamp has been issued on the indigenous Covaxin developed jointly by ICMR and Bharat Biotech, realising PM Narendra Modi ji’s dream of Self-Reliant India,” he tweeted.
The vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 last year with vaccine administered to healthcare workers in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline workers started on February 2.
According to a release of Health and Family Welfare, the vaccination coverage exceeded 156.76 crore (1,56,76,15,454) till 7 am on Sunday with administration of more than 66 lakh doses (66,21,395) in the last 24 hours.
