New Delhi: The Central government has decided to revive the Talcher unit of the Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd (FCIL) by setting up an ammonia urea plant.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya said the plant of 12.7 lakh tonne per annum capacity will be set up as a joint venture company.

Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd (RCF), Coal India ltd (CIL) and FCIL are stakeholders in the joint venture company. Named Talcher Fertilizers Ltd (TFL), it was incorporated on November 3, 2015.

The TFL is targeted to generate direct employment opportunities for about 510 people and indirect employment opportunities for 4500 (during construction phase). Besides, the Talcher plant is expected to boost economic development in the eastern region and ensure availability of urea to the farmers in Odisha, the minister said.
