CERT-In Asks Google Chrome Users To Update Immediately; Know Why

New Delhi: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) on Tuesday asked Google Chrome browser users to update the app if they are using version 84.0.4147.89 or before in order to avoid possible infringement of data.

The agency said that the older version could potentially leave the browser open for remote hackers to execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, access sensitive information along with conducting spoofing attack and denial of services (DoS) on the target systems.

Earlier this month, the CERT-In asked Google Chrome users to remove certain extensions that were found to be collecting “sensitive” user data. It stated that certain malicious extensions could take screenshots, read the clipboard, harvest authentication cookies or capture passwords and user keystrokes as well.

To update, click on the 3 dots at the top right corner of Google Chrome. Select ‘Help’ and then click on ‘About Chrome’. Click on update if required. For Android users, go to Play Store and open Google Chrome and press on ‘Check for updates’.
