Bhubaneswar: A retired woman teacher was injured after bike-borne chain snatchers attacked her at Adhalia near Balianta here on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was identified as 62-year-old Puspabati Mohapatra, a former teacher of a government school.
Puspabati was walking back to her home at Adhalia when the miscreants accosted her. They told her to take a shortcut, but she refused. At this one of the miscreants got down from the bike, snatched the woman’s gold chain, shoved her down on the road and then fled with his aide. The woman sustained a deep cut on her head after she fell down.
All this was captured on a CCTV installed in a home in the neighbourhood. According to the footage, some passers-by later rescued the bleeding woman. They took her to a hospital, where a doctor stitched the wound on her head.
The victim’s son Satyajit Mohapatra said, “My mother had undergone a knee replacement surgery about two years ago. The doctors had advised her to walk for some time every day. On Thursday, she had got down from a bus and decided to walk to our home when she was attacked.”
Satyajit said they gave the registration number of the bike to police, who found that it was a stolen vehicle.
Police said they have launched a manhunt for the miscreants.
