Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman, allegedly deserted by a man she got married to, attempted self-immolation in front of Simulia police station of Balasore district on Sunday.
The woman’s self-immolation bid was foiled by police personnel present at the police station.
According to reports, the woman of Agarpada village got married to Wasim Sayed of Kupura in Simulia.
Simulia police station in-charge Jayant Behera said the complainant met a man on Facebook and the two fell in love. Later, they left for Bengaluru where they got married. There the two stayed as husband and wife for some days.
From there they returned to Bhubaneswar and during their stay in the city, Sayed deserted her in April.
The woman said she had approached Simulia police for filing a complaint but no action was taken. “Peeved over the police inaction, I resorted to the extreme step of self-immolation,” she said.
