Bhubaneswar: A woman, who claims to have been cheated by her live-in partner, has accused the police of delay in acting against the accused and delivering justice to her.

In her complaint at Khandagiri police station against one Ankit Agrawal, the woman has alleged that she was tortured physically and mentally by him and his family.

Speaking to mediapersons, the woman sais she and Ankit first became friends on Instagram after he sent a request. The social media friendship developed into a real one and they met following which they started liking each other. They fell in love. The woman said “We were in a live-in relationship for three months. During this time I became pregnant and when I informed him about it, he and his family started torturing me mentally and physically.”

She also claimed that Ankit, at the behest of his sister, forcefully terminated her pregnancy. They even took her to a clinic to confirm the abortion and she had to suffer from excessive bleeding for at least days but had no help. She had to take the help of her friends to contact Ankit’s mother who reached her in her room late in the night and gave some medication to relieve her of the pain.

The complainant claimed Ankit’s family was aware of her divorcee status and that she was Muslim. However, at the police station they feigned that the matter was hidden from them, the woman told mediapersons.

She approached the police on January 26 to file the case but no action has been taken yet, she alleged.

Broken, the woman took the matter up with the Commissioner of Police on Wednesday.
